Our
impact
Building a green, inclusive and productive world
Our ambition is simple: to do business the right way and place our responsibility for our people, communities and environment at the heart of every decision we make. This is underpinned by the Ten Principles of the UN Global Compact and we align our approach to the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). We have made great strides to further grow our positive impact and this year launched our global Making the Difference Fund. We are passionate about creating opportunities for the next generation of future leaders and over the last five years, we have forged strong links with schools, colleges and universities, and their surrounding communities to promote careers in our sector. For more information, read our annual corporate responsibility report.
There is no more important resource than the next generation of innovators
Construction skills for the future: transforming the industry
Changing the status quo
Underpinning our corporate responsibility programmes worldwide is our commitment to deliver better outcomes – in our projects, in our recruitment, and in the way we work. There is no more important resource than the next generation of innovators. We want to help build a world where the opportunities our industry offers are open to all. With a major skills shortage in our industry globally, attracting new people to join our industry is key. That is why we are committed to supporting social mobility and why we are so passionate about the partnerships we build with communities. In recent years, our career development initiatives have spanned the globe – from Africa and Southeast Asia to Europe, the UK and United States. Over the past year, we have witnessed the continuing impact of this work.

Launching our Making the Difference Fund
In 2023, we launched our Making the Difference Fund, which enables our business to support causes that are important to communities and the environment at a local level across all the global regions we operate in. In our first global charity partnership, we are supporting Barefoot College International to train more than 740 women as solar engineers in Guatemala and Senegal. Starting in June 2023 and running for three years, the project will result in the electrification of over 37,000 rural homes, benefitting some 300,000 people. Beyond funding, our input will include supplying project management, procurement services and digital expertise on a pro bono basis. With its mission to create vocational and educational opportunities for women and girls from the most marginalised communities in the world, Barefoot College International operates in 2,000 rural villages across 93 countries.

“The legacy of this project is that we’ll be able to serve downtown Nashville residents for decades to come.” Chip Howorth, Property Committee Chair, Middle Tennessee YMCA Association
YMCA’s transformative renovation in central Nashville
1000 Church Street, YMCA of Middle Tennessee, USA
The YMCA of Middle Tennessee provides a unique community resource, supporting residents’ well-being through healthy living, youth development and social responsibility initiatives. Our largest pro bono project ever undertaken in North America, the new ‘Downtown Y’ will be a landmark project for the city, as it will not only just be a state-of-the-art building, but a place where the community comes together. Key to our role is leading engagement with, and collaboration between, multiple stakeholders throughout the construction process to ensure the project’s success. We are providing, on a partial pro bono basis, project and cost management services as well as project controls to ensure the job is completed on time and on budget.
