Reimagining Battersea Power Station as the UK’s leading mixed-use retail and leisure destination
20,000 long-term job opportunities to be created
Battersea Power Station mixed-use development, UK
Historic Battersea Power Station is at the heart of one of London’s largest and most visionary developments. Along with the surrounding 42-acre site, Battersea Power Station is transforming into a dynamic mix of residential, commercial and cultural uses for the local community. Approximately 20,000 long-term job opportunities will have been created once the development has been completed. For more than ten years we have been a key part of managing this complex project and provided bespoke advice in relation to procurement, value engineering, plus risk and issue management. The longevity of our role and our ability to provide the most effective resource solutions to drive the project were key to the redevelopment, as was evolving our service offering to the project’s changing needs.

Embedding a digital approach to MTR Corporation’s railway infrastructure projects
5.9 million passengers on an average weekday
MTR, Hong Kong
The Hong Kong railway system operated by MTR Corporation is considered one of the world’s best urban railway systems. We were engaged in 2018 to review the corporation’s management and delivery of its infrastructure projects. Since then, we have worked in partnership with the Corporation’s capital works team to set a clear framework for improvements to transform how its programme of works will be delivered, to achieve better time, cost and quality results. As the digital journey continues, MTR Corporation is now reaping the rewards of consistent digital workflows in areas such as costing, construction planning, operations and maintenance efficiency.

Implementing the South African plan to deliver a hydrogen economy
A key deliverable is defining clear accountabilities across the hydrogen programme’s lifecycle with effective and transparent governance and reporting at all levels.
Hydrogen Society Roadmap, South Africa
South Africa’s Hydrogen Society Roadmap sets out the country’s ambitions for developing its hydrogen economy. In 2023, we were appointed to assess the current enabling environment and institutional framework and create a one-stop-shop to drive the Roadmap’s target outcomes. We are supporting the Department of Science and Innovation by developing a target operating model, incorporating best-practice systems to encourage effective collaboration between government, academia and business. Leveraging our global expertise, a vital part of the work is to develop knowledge-sharing between South Africa and the UK.

New workspaces for Salesforce’s flagship Australian headquarters
“The team showed exceptional leadership and dedication … to ensure that our planned outcomes were possible and could be achieved within the cost estimates and budgets.” Craig Wiseman, Director, REWS Project Delivery, JAPAC, Salesforce
Salesforce Tower, Sydney, Australia
Salesforce Tower was built as part of the A$5bn redevelopment of Sydney’s Circular Quay precinct and opened to the public in late 2022. Software company Salesforce needed its Sydney office to feature state-of-the-art workspaces on the 13 levels occupied by the company, that supported new ways of working, encouraged employee wellbeing and met the client’s rigorous safety and sustainability standards. It also included floors dedicated to giving back to the local community and providing project spaces to not-for-profits. Our team leveraged global benchmarking and proven cost reporting analysis to ensure that the planned outcomes were possible and could be achieved within the cost estimates and budgets.

Transforming Heathrow’s project management office system to drive performance
“Turner & Townsend demonstrated a strong understanding of not only Heathrow processes, but also industry best practices.” Ben Jones, Head of Capital PMO, Heathrow Airport Limited
Heathrow – Digital controls, UK
Five years ago, Heathrow Airport Limited understood that its traditional project management office (PMO) would not be able to meet the scale and complexity of its vast capital investment plans. In 2019, we were appointed to develop an integrated digital solution to manage its multibillion-pound capital delivery programme. We set out to add extra capability to Heathrow’s PMO – to make it more efficient, ensure a better user experience, and for it to deliver a new level of data integration and automation. Following the critical R&D phase which identified the client’s detailed requirements, we delivered the new integrated digital portfolio controls solution. For the past two years, the focus has been to roll out the platform across the airport’s operations, giving management unprecedented insights into every aspect of their capital delivery programme.

Developing a new lithium-ion battery manufacturing facility to add critical capacity to the US EV battery supply chain
"The outstanding partnership we have with Turner & Townsend will play a key role in our success on this multibillion-dollar project.” Carl Walton, Vice President of Strategic Initiatives & Facilities, Panasonic Energy of North America
Panasonic Project Kansas, USA
Construction of Panasonic Energy’s US$4bn manufacturing facility in the city of De Soto, Kansas, is an important step in meeting the growing demand for lithium-ion batteries in the United States. The facility will provide 4,000 direct jobs with a similar number of indirect jobs. It is the largest, most expensive, single-construction development in Kansas’s history. Initially required to carry out an estimate review on the facility’s development, our role has expanded to include cost and commercial management, procurement and project management services. Leveraging our experience with similar major projects, we are bringing global best practices combined with deep local market knowledge to what will be one of the largest, most advanced EV battery manufacturing facilities in the world.

Supporting the construction of AESC’s lithium-ion battery factory to expand the company’s manufacturing base in Europe
The plant comprises all phases of electrode, cell and battery module production and assembly.
AESC Douai battery gigafactory, France
Scheduled to open in 2024, AESC will manufacture batteries primarily for electric vehicles (EVs) produced by the Renault Group in the first phase of this new site in northern France. The AESC plant in Douai is significant not least because of its sheer size and scale. The first phase is being constructed on a 20 hectare plot, with the possibility of expanding to 60 hectares as the factory achieves full capacity. Leveraging our global experience in the sector and our track record with AESC as a trusted partner, we are providing a range of services, including controls and performance, cost and commercial management, procurement and project management. The project is estimated to create about 1,200 jobs when operational and this will potentially reach 3,000 when the factory is fully developed.

Improving connectivity and reducing car use in Scotland’s capital
“The Turner & Townsend team was key to successful project delivery … building strong and productive relationships.” Hannah Ross, Senior Responsible Officer, City of Edinburgh Council
Trams to Newhaven, UK
Delivered in spring 2023, the Trams to Newhaven project completes a vital sustainable transport option for the heart of Scotland’s fastest-growing city. Completion of the 4.69km/2.91m route to Newhaven provides a direct link for the people of Leith to the city centre and connecting passengers to major employment hubs, while reducing the reliance on cars. We provided a range of services to deliver the £207.3m project on schedule and within budget. Working closely with the City of Edinburgh’s project sponsor, finance, technical and procurement teams, these services included construction management, controls and performance management, cost management and project management.
