© Crossrail Ltd
The Elizabeth line, Crossrail Ltd, UK
London’s population is set to reach 10 million by 2030. A more sustainable, greener, inclusive and economically viable transport system is vital.
The Elizabeth line is crucial to keeping London’s urban transportation plan, connecting the capital’s central commercial and business districts. Delivered by Crossrail Ltd, the new east-west railway line will bring an estimated 1.5 million people within 45 minutes of central London and add a projected £42 billion to the UK economy.
We played a key role helping Crossrail Ltd to set up the project, and provided commercial, controls, cost and risk management support for over 13 years.

Building a workplace which celebrates innovation, nature, and the community
Google Bay View, USA
Google is building a new 1.1 million sq ft office campus in California with its people’s needs at the core of the building concept. Google are committed to operating entirely on carbon-free energy by 2030. The Bay View development will utilise sustainable materials and biophilic design, improve indoor air quality, and create buildings which uphold design excellence, now and in the future.
Since 2017, we have been delivering overall cost and project controls management on the Bay View project, helping Google implement robust controls and reporting procedures as well as general controls improvements on the project.

Upgrading the world’s largest aquarium in Australia
Reef HQ Capital Works Project, Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority, Australia
The Reef HQ Aquarium houses the world’s most extensive living coral reef aquarium system, replicating the largest living example of a coral reef on land. After 32 years in a harsh tropical climate, the building requires extensive work. The Great Barrier Reef Marine Park Authority is investing AU$80.1m into a complete refurbishment programme.
We have been appointed as programme and project managers. This is a unique construction, and our expertise and knowledge will guide the client. Together we will shape this project from initiation through to the concept, schematic and design phases and finally to construction and closing.

Empowering communities with improved water supply in Africa
Solar-powered water supply and irrigation systems, Nexus Green, Uganda
UK-based renewable energy contractor, Nexus Green, has been commissioned by the Ugandan Ministry of Water and Environment (MWE) to develop up to 687 water supply systems for both domestic use and irrigation across the country.
This project has the potential to transform the lives of millions of Ugandans through increased water irrigation for improved agricultural production as well as improved access to water for domestic use. Once complete, this will change the lives of 4.5 million Ugandans who are impacted annually by water scarcity.
We set up the programme management office, and are providing controls and performance, cost and commercial management services on all 687 separate projects.

Building a greener, more sustainable world
Turning over a NewLeaf: on the path to net zero
Our NewLeaf strategy is our long-term plan to reach a more sustainable, greener future – for our business, our clients, and for the wider world. As part of our net-zero journey, we have verified emissions reduction targets aligned to climate models across all of our value chain.
This year, we have made significant progress against our target to reduce our own emissions and energy usage in offices (Scope 1 & 2). Like many companies, our focus will be on working with our partners and suppliers to help them reduce their emissions. Given the position we already hold in the supply chain and our existing environmental expertise, we are excited about the opportunity to lead cross-industry collaboration on these critical issues.

Denver International Airport capital improvement plan, USA
Denver International Airport (DEN) is the economic engine for the region, generating US$33bn a year and employing nearly 30,000 people. DEN is embarking on an ambitious capital investment plan over the next ten years that will enable the airport to reach 100 million passengers annually.
As part of the expansion, DEN will build a Centre of Excellence and Equity and complete the gate expansion project and other major infrastructure developments.
We are the sole providers of project and programme controls, performance and procurement. By helping DEN put robust controls and effective and timely performance measurements into place, we will support them in achieving their plan.

Working with communities across Africa to improve health, education and sustainability
Khomanani Healthcare Centre and Crèche, South Africa
We continue to create long term sustainable impact in Africa by pairing each of our offices in the region with a dedicated charity partner, focusing on youth, education and sustainability.
Our projects include the Khomanani healthcare centre in South Africa, which provides education, access to health care and daily meals to children and young people in the local community.
We are also working on a Career Ready Mentorship programme in Uganda, while in Botswana, we are supporting students at Molwane Primary by sponsoring boot camps to help students prepare for exams.
Our work in Kenya involves supporting young girls and women who lack access to essential feminine hygiene products such as sanitary pads, which is a huge barrier to furthering education and work opportunities.

Enabling the transition to a renewable energy future
Hollandse Kust Zuid Offshore Wind Farm Grid Connection, TenneT, The Netherlands
TenneT is a European electrical transmission system operator in the Netherlands and North Germany, who delivers a secure and continuous electricity supply connecting electricity producers to consumers and electricity markets. TenneT’s Alpha and Beta 700MW transformer platforms are components of the critical infrastructure needed to connect energy generated from the Hollandse Kust Zuid (HKZ) offshore wind farm to land.
Maintaining programme milestones over the course of a wind farm development is a huge challenge. TenneT commissioned Turner & Townsned to provide a project performance assurance service including progress monitoring, progress measurement and verification during the fabrication phase.

Redefining the automotive industry to go beyond the traditional showroom
Porsche Experience Centre, Canada
Luxury automotive manufacturer, Porsche, is pioneering a customer experience beyond just buying cars, by creating ‘experience centres’ worldwide. These new experiences will each be a tourist destination, enabling enthusiasts or potential customers to appreciate current and historic vehicles or experience the 1.24-mile track.
One of ten centres opened worldwide, the Porsche Experience Centre in Toronto will be located on a 20-acre site and will include more than 400,000 square feet of retail space. With sustainability a key focus, the goal is to create a net-zero development incorporating mass timber, geothermal heating, green roof and more.
We have helped Porsche navigate market uncertainty and volatility, reviewing costs and revising the development plans for this unique investment to keep the project on budget and to schedule.

Helping Barclays deliver its global workplace strategy and sustainability ambitions
Barclays' Glasgow campus, UK
British universal bank Barclays wanted to build a new campus in Glasgow, which would create not only an inspiring workplace, but somewhere transformative that would have a lasting impact on its people, and the local economy and community. By removing the campus’ reliance on fossil fuels, it is estimated that approximately 150 tonnes of carbon will be saved each year.
Home to 5,000 employees, the campus comprises 500,000 sq ft of sustainable office, wellness and community amenity space across three new buildings and two renovated listed buildings.
In 2018, we were engaged by Barclays to deliver project, cost and risk management services. By embedding our team as part of the client organisation, we guided the project through the design, procurement and delivery stages to create a world-class campus.

Adding social value to government procurement
Social Value Centre of Expertise Accelerator Programme, Ministry of Defence, UK
In response to the UK government’s procurement note for all its departments to consider social value when awarding central government contracts, the Ministry of Defence (MOD) wanted to set up a social value centre of expertise to guide its departments. Its aim is to increase positive outcomes in areas such as equal opportunities, wellbeing and fighting climate change.
We were appointed to provide a ‘one-stop shop’ team, that would deliver a full suite of services including project management, sustainability advisory and cost and commercial management to help the MOD meet its ambitious target of having 10 percent of its tender value related to social value.
