Enabling the transition to a renewable energy future with TenneT across Germany
“I am proud of this project for many reasons – being part of this energy transition, building projects for the future, I think thatʼs a great challenge.”
Ewald Laning Project Director, Turner & Townsend
SuedOstLink powerline, Germany
The SuedOstLink is comprised of two underground power lines that will transfer wind-generated power from the north of Germany to its southern industrial zones. Breaking new ground, the line is the first 525kV HVDC (High Voltage Direct Current) underground cable system with transmittable power of more than 2GW on a single system. Once complete, the SuedOstLink is expected to provide four gigawatts of electricity to around 10 million households a year and is a key piece of infrastructure integral to Germany’s strategy to attain climate neutrality by 2045. Since 2023, we have provided project management support to TenneT on the construction of the 270 km southern section of the SuedOstLink.
